The Philly AIGA is hosting a #phillytype show throughout June at their Old City gallery, Space. As a heavy contributor I’m excited to see how this comes together. Opening night is this Friday, June 6th at 6PM. See you there…
Curator Danielle Palencar draws from the #phillytype hashtag on Instagram, seeking the best representations of found type shot by hundreds of the city’s street photographers, signpainters, graf writers, designers, architects, social critics, and Philadelphia evangelists. The subject matter runs a sweeping range analogous to the diversity and history of the city — from old peeling handpainted lettering to cast metal type, from neon to ink on paper, from spraypaint to cut vinyl adhesives, from molded plastic to engravings — and from the 18th century up through last week.
